Skeese Greets, Greeting Cards for the Athletically Minded, announces the Fifth Annual Skeese Greets Women's Triathlon scheduled for Mother's Day, May 8th, 2011 and benefiting the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign. The 300 meter swim, 11 mile bike and 2 mile run has taken place at the Texas Ski Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas every year, but the date has been moved around during the month of May. This will be the first time the triathlon takes place on Mother's Day.
"We think it's a good fit for that weekend," explains director Stacy Keese. "It's a women's event and most triathlete women don't want to sit around on Mother's Day with breakfast in bed. They want to be active and have fun. They can do that at this event with their family cheering them on. It will be a special day for them."
Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, the triathlon will offer participants the opportunity to swim in a small, man-made cable lake; bike through scenic tree-lined, rolling hills; and put their running shoes on for a paved road run. Afterward, they'll be treated to a great a party with lots of give-a-ways, burgers, beer, ice cream and free massages. They can also relax on the beach as they listen to music and watch cable skiers flip tricks. Other amenities include personalized race bibs, custom finisher necklace, performance shirts sized for women (tech tees), professional timing, reusable tote, reusable water bottle, and a custom swim cap.
Past victors of the Skeese Greets Women's Tri include professional triathletes Desiree Ficker, Kelly Hadel-Williamson and Natasha Van Der Merwe. The participant list, however, is dominated with age-group athletes and first time triathletes.
