The New Perfect Stocking Stuffer: "The Thinksport Bottle"

Okay, so I am having the post-marathon blues since my race mid-November. The training/racing ended just in time for the holidays and of course just in time for some self pity. Everytime some delicious looking food is near me I think to myself, "You earned it from your marathon, you can enjoy." In reality my Monday post race was dedicated to just that...overindulging. I had a delicious shake from P. Terry's along with fries, and a burger. YUMMY! But I am still eating like I just finished a marathon and of course Thanksgiving didn't help either. Time for a reality check! I am suffering from wanting to eat everything and not knowing what my next athletic endeavor is to keep my focus and motivation up...

My next step towards getting back on the fit and healthy "bandwagon" is to honor this great new product we received this week: The Thinksport 750 Silver Stainless Steel Bottle. Sweet! The bottles were created with the safety issue in mind regarding chemicals occuring in polycarbonate based products. The cool thing about this bottle is that it holds hot or cold beverages and you can brew your own tea!!! Good bye to the milk shakes and hello to healthy tea!

Happy Training!

New Gear for The Off Season!

I was thinking about the off season and I realized it is the perfect time of year to take care of that bicycle of yours! Sure, there may be less time "in the saddle," but that's even more reason to wash your chain or even replace it! We just received an order of chains ranging from 105 to DA. Keeping your chain in good shape, whether it be off season or race season, is important for maintaining your bicycle. Stop by the shop and ask the super mechanics for help if you are not sure which chain is right for you.

On another note, the other day I thought I lost all three pairs of my sunglasses...YUP! All three. I pretty much gave up looking and decided maybe it was time to just get some new ones to go with the upcoming running race season. I feel fitter and better than I have in a long time so why not get a new pair of sunglasses as a reward for my new found fitness. Okay, I was also thinking that way because we got our fall pre-season order in from Tifosi Optics. Pretty cool! Our Tifosi display is fully stocked! Check these out:

Cool shades! Tifosi Vogel

New items coming this weekend to the shop:

More Louis Garneau winter clothes

For the ladies
: Craft Long sleeve women's base layer in earth color (pretty purple to me)

Safety First: Neon Yellow Jackets for the dark mornings!

Still have one last race of the season? Check out the recent arrival of Continental 700c Tubies to spark up those race wheels!

Bonk Breaker saved the day!

Craft base layers - NEW at J&A's! They look super nice. Just in time for the cooler mornings. I hear it is suppose to be pretty cold this weekend. We have longsleeve, shortsleeve, and sleeveless baselayer options in all sizes for men and the short sleeve option in all sizes for women. Something to consider. I personally was ready to buy the women's short sleeve in what Craft refers to as "electric" color (it looks more like an orange-pink color to me) but I decided to hold off and give some lucky customers a chance at them first =). I would wear it on it's own (yes,it sounds dorky, but I have done that with a really cute baselayer from Pearl Izumi and I loved it!)

The next item that I put out at the shop was the "Bonk Breaker" bar. Talk about a life saver. I decided to have one mid morning and it pretty much saved the shop from my grumpiness and turned my day around. I ended up going for peanutbutter and jelly flavor. The best thing about the bar is that it is dairy free and wheat free! Perfect for the sensitive tummy, mine included.

I am noticing the sun is setting earlier and earlier. It might be time to add some extra bike lights and purchase a new lock. I am commuting more now too and realized both lights and locks
are so important. We just got some super affordable blinky lights and Kryptonite locks as well. Ask anyone at the shop and they will rave about both products.

Be safe! Happy training! and Stay Hydrated!

New Products at J&A's: Carb Boom!

Well things are just about back to "normal" shop routine post Longhorn 70.3 IM. It is great to fall back into the routine though the fast pace of a pre-race week is always exciting and keeps you on your toes!

This past week I was catching up with my regular receiving duties and I came across several boxes from Carb Boom! I started unpacking the boxes when I came across something very new with awesome packaging...Carb Boom Raspberry gel! The makers of Carb Boom! are coming out with some new flavors over the course of the up coming year, Raspberry included. Unfortunately, my workouts were complete for the day (with the exception of mommy and me swim class) so I did not have a chance to try the new flavor. I did bring it to the attention of Michelle...Michelle's product review to follow soon!

Terra (Little T) is trying out for the more advanced swim class next week (no more mommy and me...just baby) but she still won't be trying any of the new Carb Boom!

Product Review: Powerbar Gel Blasts

A few weeks ago I saw something new in my Burnet race packet, powerbar gel blasts. I'd seen a few people buying them and was curious to see what they were like. My quick glance at the packaging made me believe there might be something banana tasting inside.

I opened the package, tossed one in my mouth, and spit it out as fast as I could. Yuck! Coke flavored gummy.

Personally, I'm more of a fruit and vegtable type of girl. I'm probably one of the few people who craves wheatgrass shots after a long ride. But that is a whole other discussion.

Back to the bites... you may wonder why I'd write about something I am repulsed by. Reason is, Michael loves those dang things. He's one of the pickiest eaters I've ever seen on the bike but somehow he managed to keep those things down this past weekend. Not only that, he had his first ride ever where he didn't slow down during a 5hr ride and even had energy left to do a 45 min transition run. I'm considering sending those gel blasts to a lab, I think there must be something magical in them.

So for all of you soda lovers, you might want to try these Gel Blasts. For all of you fruit and vegtable types, I'll be giving you some ideas next week ;)

P.S. Michael asks that you don't make any comments on his need for a haircut, he's been busy at work.
